Happy Math & Music Monday!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I hope your Monday is off to a great start! Well, I got an update from our website guy… we are getting SO CLOSE!! Please keep saying your prayer and keep those fingers cross. Hopefully, it will launch soon! We have so many super exciting things in the works I can’t wait to tell you more! But, for now… it will have to wait. Thank you again for ALL the support and patience! It really means so SO much! I’m so excited about this week’s blog, so while we patiently wait for the launch of the new website, I thought it would be fun to share with you a new game/activity we LOVE to do/play at our house. It’s so very simple but so fun!
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – unknown
I love this quote. It’s the perfect quote for this week’s blog because it perfectly applies to this week’s activity/game. It’s so simple and uses an item I would guess most of you have in your home already. Getting it out can change the whole room or activity! I really think you’re going to LOVE IT! Can you guess what this simple item is yet? The title of this blog gave you a clue… that’s right… it’s a pair of DICE!
I recently got this game from the game section at Target (see photo below). It has some fun game ideas that come with all these dice. BUT you could totally get a die/dice from a game you already have in your home. We love to use our die/dice for many different activities in our home. I love that it changes almost any activity. For this week’s family game night, we each had to come up with our own game using a die/dice. We had the best time! Below are just some of the ideas we came up with… we hope you love them too! Plus, it’s a great way to practice number sense and in some cases one-to-one correspondence!
Pody’s game is called “Big Daddy Dice!” It’s really quite simple. Everyone rolls the die/dice and whoever rolls the biggest number wins! This will work if you have just one die or multiple. If you get the same number as someone else, then you roll again until there is one person with the highest number!
Sister K’s game is called, “Color Dice!” Sister K assigned each number a color. Then it’s time to roll the die. Whatever number you roll, you get to find something in your home that matches that color. For an extra challenge, try finding the same number of colored items that you roll. For example, if you roll a two (and in this case the two is the color orange on K’s list) then you would find two orange items in your home, etc. We had the best time finding things in our home by rolling the die!
Sister P’s game is called, “Treasure Roll!” For this game, you number from 1 – 6 on your paper and then list different “treasures” next to each number. Sister P wanted to make it extra tricky by listing things like, “something that starts with an ‘R’” but you could just list different things to find around your home. When you roll the number, you get to go on a treasure hunt to find that item.
My game is also super simple. It’s called, “Dice Workout!” Everyone gets to roll the die/dice one at a time. After you roll, you get to pick the different exercise activity. For example, if I roll a four, then we do four pushups. Etc. It makes for a great workout and the perfect way to get the wiggles out!
We really had the best time using a simple die/dice as the tool for our games. These are just some of the many ideas you could do with a die/dice. What I love about this is it works for almost any age! It’s also the perfect way to changeup an old activity and make it new! Do you have a great idea? We would love to hear from you! Please share your ideas with us on our Facebook or Instagram page!
