Extension Activities: Ally Went Fishing!

Happy Math and Music Monday!

Have you heard? Last week was a very exciting week because we launched our 12th Math and Music Video and Activities! If you haven’t seen it already, it’s called Ally Went Fishing! This month’s video combines two of my favorite things… Counting and Fishing! It is one of our NEW favorites! I’m also super excited about this week’s blog.   I can’t wait to share with you our experiences doing the new Ally Went Fishing Video and Activities!

Fun Fact

“Don’t just teach kids how to count. Teach’em what counts most!” – Karen Salmansohn

When doing the research for this week’s quote… this one really stuck out to me. Counting is such an important mathematical concept, but so is teaching our children what really counts. I love that these activities make me stop our craziness and do something intentional with them. It ALWAYS reminds me what really counts… It’s our family time. This is also perfect because one of our favorite activities to do as a family is FISHING!  We even did a blog on this, “Rhythmic Patterns with Daddy”I hope you will go check it out.

Ok – let’s get into this week’s FUN activities with the NEW Ally Went Fishing video! I’ve also included some fun extension activities. I know my girls LOVED them, and I loved them too!

*Special Note: To access this new video you will need to have a login and password. If you are already a member, it’s as simple as clicking “login,” and if you don’t have a password, please click on “Forgot Password,” Then you will get an email that will direct you to reset your password. After that, you will be good to go and able to login. Please feel free to email or message me if you have any trouble! I’m happy to help.

Step 1: If you haven’t already done so, go watch and do the new Ally Went Fishing Video and do the Activities. Take a look at us doing the activities.

First we watched the new video!
Then we got some wiggles out by moving to the music!
Then it was time for the "off the screen" activities!
Making and Clapping Rhythmic Patterns!
More Coloring and Counting! As you can see each girl wanted to do it a little different. (which is totally ok!) I LOVE watching them learn! One girl counted the top fish and the other didn't. This opened the door to a very interesting conversation. lol

Awesome! Wasn’t that so fun? I would love to hear how it went. Please be sure to share on our Facebook page (Ally Dog Depot) or tag me on Instagram @mathandmusicmommy.

Also, be sure to tag a friend you think would LOVE this activity too.

Step 2: Now that you have completed the activities for the Ally Went Fishing video, you’re ready to extend the learning fun! Ok – So I have to confess, I LOVE this learning concept (or I would even say a life concept).   We use counting everyday! Take a look at some of the ways we used counting this week!

One way we counted (and actually sorted) was with our Easter Candy!

We bought our country home “with land” (that was Pody’s dream) and with it came a HUGE asparagus garden. This weekend, I, to extend our learning, (oh, and get some help in the garden) thought it would be fun if we actually counted how many pieces of asparagus we got from the garden… Check it out below. This turned into a super fun activity!

Time to cut some asparagus!
I told you it was a HUGE garden! lol
Time to count! We made groups of 10 and a tally sheet to make it a little easier!
That's right... 240 pieces of asparagus!

Step 3: Don’t forget to discuss with your children other places we might find things to count. This week on our Facebook and Instagram, be sure to follow along because we will be going on an adventure to find all the places in our world that we can count… We hope you will follow along in our fun!

Oh, one last personal note… Our real Ally Dog LOVED to go fishing too! Here is a photo of her in the fishing boat! Let’s make it a great week!

Sister P, Ally Dog, and Sister K fishing!

Thanks for stopping by!

Be sure to check back later this week… We have some EXCITING NEWS! We hope you all have a wonderful Math and Music Monday or even a wonderful Math and Music WEEK!
