Extension Activities: Ally Dog Song!

Happy Math and Music Monday!

Who is ready for Christmas?! Can you believe it is Christmas Eve! I can’t. I think I finally have all the shopping done, and now I just need to get everything wrapped. (just a little behind!) I am grateful for our Math and Music videos and activities because I still have a lot to do to get ready for our family, the activities/videos will be a perfect thing to add to our list of options for the kids to do to keep them busy.

Fun Fact

“There is always more to be found by exploring the same subject again and again.” – unknown

This week’s quote is a good one. I think as adults it’s easy for us to forget the importance of doing something over and over and over. To us, it might seem silly (or even sometimes annoying) but really it’s an important part of learning. It’s how our children make sense of the world and truly build their understanding of things.

Ok – let’s get into this week’s FUN activities with the Ally Dog Song! I’ve also included some fun extension activities to make the learning a little more challenging for your older children. I know my girls LOVED it!

Step 1: If you haven’t already done so, go watch and do the new Ally Dog Song Video and Activities.

Sister P and Sister K "singing" like Ally Dog.
After getting our wiggles out with the "Ally Dog Song" it's time for some coloring!

Awesome! Wasn’t that so fun? I would love to hear how it went. Please be sure to share on our Facebook page (Ally Dog Depot) or tag me on Instagram @mathandmusicmommy.

Step 2: Now that you have completed the activities for the Ally Dog Song video, you’re ready to extend the learning fun! For my girls, I printed off some extra copies of the “Draw your Day” activity from the website. This time, instead of drawing our day, the girls wanted to draw the steps of something else. Sister P drew the steps of wrapping a gift, and Sister K drew the steps decorating a gingerbread house. It was so fun to see them using their imagination and creativity when doing this activity. Once we had all the steps illustrated, it was time to take the learning one step further.

Step 3: Time for voting! This is always one of my favorite extensions. We put the steps in order for both girls’ projects. Then using our counters (Dad = blue, Sister K = purple, Sister P = green and Mom = red) we voted on our favorite part of the process for each girls project. I love this! It’s the perfect way to start a fun addition and subtraction conservation.   Simple questions like: “Which one has more?” or “Which one has less” or “How many does that one have?” or “If that one has 3 and this one has 1, how many do I need to add to make it the same?” starts the mathematical thinking! As you can see we had lots of fun voting on our favorite steps!

Time for Voting!
The girls were excited that their favorite got the most votes.

Thanks for stopping by!

We hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas and wonderful Math and Music Monday!
